Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Movie Review
August 12, 2005| Genre: | Science Fiction & Fantasy |
Starring Johnny Depp
Directed by Tim Burton
Based on the best-selling children’s book by Roald Dahl about a poor good hearted boy named Charlie winning a golden ticket to enter the magical Chocolate Factory owned by strange and wacky Willy Wonka.
The Good: Unlike the other Willy Wonka movie from 1971 starring Gene Wilder this version did more justice to the book showing the origin of how Willy Wonka came to be. Johnny Depp again shows us his versatility as an actor playing the out of this world Willy Wonka. Another thing you will like about the movie is the selection of the child actors not to mention Freddie Highmore who played Charlie who also co starred with Johhny Depp in Finding Neverland.
The Bad: I can’t find anything wrong really with the movie except maybe the singing of the Oompa Loompas. And maybe missing the classic song from the 1971 version. A little tendency to drag but yet remains compelling.
Movie Recipe: Hard to say, more of M&Ms meets The Peanut man meets any Disney movie.
The Verdict: I give this one 4 out of 5 stars. Definitely better than the 1971 version. One of my Tim Burton favorites. A great movie to bring the kids where there is great lesson to be learned in the end.
